Introducing the Make It Market: Fairy Tale Christmas Kit!

Good morning! It's September 30th and that means as promised, we're here with the full reveal of this year's big holiday kit - Fairy Tale Christmas!
You can visit the Papertrey Ink blog to see ALL of the kit details, and I'll share lots of info here, too!
As in years past, we will be offering two separate kits, one full of the essential tools (main kit) and one with fun extras (trimmings kit).
Both kits, along with all of the extras as outlined below and on the Papertrey Ink blog, will be available for purchase beginning at 10pm ET on Monday, October 1st from Papertrey Ink. The main kit will be restocked until December 1st should the initial inventory sell out. The Trimmings kit will only be available while supplies last and will not be restocked.
So first, let's go over the kits and what is included, and then I'll dive into sharing lots of projects with you!

This die is not being included in the Fairy Tale Christmas kit (since many of you may already own the die), but it will now be available to purchase separately in the Papertrey Ink store. There will also be a printable template for the Matchbox Base in the Fairy Tale Christmas kit download, should you not have the die and don't wish to purchase it (The download is only available with the main kit purchase.)

There will also be a few other items available at the time of the kit release (Oct 1st at 10pm ET). There will be miniature strands of fairy lights, refill packs of the clear bubbles, patterned paper refills, more colors of the Nuvo Embellishment Mousse, the Matchbox Base die, and also a stencil collection that coordinates with the Fairy Tale kit.
The stencil collection consists of 5 stencils.
There are two backgrounds (snowfall and tree scene)...
There is also a set of three stencils for creating a pretty, multi-colored holly berry frame.

I think we should get on to the projects! I have so much to show you!
Let's start off with what was the main inspiration for the whole kit...these sweet little book boxes! Like I mentioned above, these boxes use the Matchbox Base die that was released with the All Through the House kit a few years back. (this die will also be available separately if you don't already own it, or you can use the printable template that's included in the kit download). There is a die in the kit for cutting the cover, along with lots of fun bits and pieces for embellishing them.
They're so fun to put together and are just too sweet!
You can use the Shaker Maker dies included in the kit to add shaker elements to the covers for a fun touch. I used the sleigh circle scene die here, and filled it with some of the fake snow and sequins from the Trimmings kit. The latch strap and latch embellishment make the perfect closure. There are some small magnets in the Trimmings kit so that you can create a magnetic closure.
There's a pretty frame die that can be added to the front, along with a matching ornate holly frame stamp. My favorite part of the whole kit might be the little filigree hardware dies. So perfect cut from Luxe Gold cardstock - they look like real metal embellishments!
You can choose to create your own covers using the stamps from the kit, or you can simply diecut the patterned papers for super quick and easy projects. I used one of the pre-printed book covers here.
The box is just the right size for a gift card. Here I added the punny little sentiment on a band for the gift card. The outside sentiment says "'twas the night before Christmas" and the sentiment inside says "when I bought you this gift". :-)
I put together a video that details these little book boxes and will show you how to put them together, including the shaker elements and the magnetic closure...
And how about going big with the book boxes? There is a template included in the kit download for creating a large version of the book boxes. These are large enough to fit a set of A2 cards, or other larger gifts and treats.
The 2-1/2" bubbles in the kit are perfect for adding larger shaker elements to the covers.
I filled this box up with a matching card set.
These cards were easy to put together. I used the three-step holly border stencils to stencil the multi-colored borders.
I cut the house scene directly from the card front to create a pretty cut-out. I framed it with one of the printed circles from the patterned paper, and topped it with the holly cluster stamp.
I created some from white cardstock, and some from kraft for a more rustic look. The sentiment along the bottom is one that's designed to fit on the spine of the book boxes, but works great for cards too, of course.
My first set of tags uses the fun Book Tag die from the kit. This die set consists of two dies - one for the book back, and one for the book front. Then simply adhere them together along the spine to create these cute little books!
You can even cut one of the circle scenes from the front cover for a pretty cut-out effect.
They're fun to embellish with the diecut sentiments from the kit, as well as the hardware detail dies. On this one I also added a ribbon bookmark using some of the velvet ribbon from the Trimmings kit.
All of these use the printed book tags from the patterned paper, but you can also design your own with the stamps in the kits.
This one uses the house circle scene die cut from the front... so sweet!
Next I used the Shaker Maker circles from the kit to make some simple circle tags. There's a sheet of printed circles that make it easy to cut pretty backers for the circle scenes. I just layered a cardstock scene diecut over the printed circle, and added a stamped cluster from the kit to the top.
I backed it with a plain circle diecut stamped with one of the "to:/from:" sentiments from the stamp set.
The next tags step it up just a bit and use the small bubbles from the kit to create shaker tags.
I sandwiched a circle scene diecut between two of the small bubbles, filled with snow and sequins from the Trimmings kit.
On the backside of the ring, I stamped another of the "to/from" sentiments from the stamp set. This one is tied with some pretty mauve sparkle twine from the Trimmings kit.
Lastly, I created more shaker tags, this time I created my own little scenes using the individual stamps and dies from the kit - the cute little girl, deer, bunnies, and snowflakes. I also added some of the diecut stamped sentiments.
One of my favorite things about doing these kits is that I can put so many dies in the die collection! I filled in all of the large dies in the collection with tons of smaller dies - there are dies for virtually everything in the stamp set - including the sentiments!
No kit is complete with some sort of ornament, right? I love making keepsake ornaments, and I think these turned out really special.
I used the Matchbox Base and Book Cover dies to create these. The fancy frame die that I mentioned earlier is actually two separate pieces - the inside and the outside, so that you have lots of versatility in how you use them. Here I used just the inner part of the frame to cut a window in the front of the book. I backed it with acetate so that I could fill my scene inside with snow and sparkles. The spine can be customized with sentiments and a year from the stamp set. There are the years 2018-2021 included in the set.
My scene inside was made using the sweet individual elements from the kit...the boy and girl, the bunnies, deer, squirrel, and owls. I even added one of the miniature mushrooms from the Trimmings kit. And the fairy lights? They're the perfect finishing touch to take it over the top and make it super special...can you imagine the ooohs and aaaaahs you'll get from the loved ones when you give them one of these?
The brad rings from the Trimmings kit are the perfect way to turn these into ornaments.
The fairy lights we're offering for purchase (there is one strand in the Trimmings kit) have a battery pack with replaceable batteries. I tested the lights and they give about 24 hours of bright light, but begin to dim after that, providing a dimmer light for a few more days after that.
I put together a video showing how to put these together, complete with tips for adding the lights.
I am so excited about my next set of projects! Do you love pop-up books? Do you love pop-up cards? How about combining those two things!
I had so much fun putting these together. I used the Book Cover die, but used it a bit differently, as a flat card this time, with the pop-up inside.
When you open it up, this adorable scene pops up!
I lined the inside with one of the pretty patterned papers from the kit - I love this Dark Indigo print! I heat embossed a sentiment and some snowflakes from the set as well.
These little book cards fit perfectly in the 4"x4" square envelopes in the Papertrey Ink store -- the shimmery gold is perfect, too! The pop-up cards are a little bulky from all of the goodies tucked inside, so the little latch along with the magnets from the Trimmings kit makes for the perfect closure.
I also used one of the circle scene dies to create a seal for the envelope. Instead of diecutting it, I used an embossing sandwich and some Luxe Gold cardstock.
I wanted to make a sweet pastel version too...
The inside is like a winter wonderland.
For this one, I used the fancy frame die to add a little pocket before attaching the pop-up element. This holds some cash or even a gift card. I tucked some cash inside and stamped the little punny sentiment inside.
These pop-ups can be put inside the little book tags too, to make some really cute enclosure cards. These fit inside the small 3" x 3" envelopes that Papertrey carries in the store. I used the fancy holly frame stamp to stamp the design on the envelope, along with a to/from sentiment.
Inside is such a fun surprise!
And here again I used one of the small sentiments inside, that finishes off the "wishing you a fairy tale sentiment" from the outside.
So perfect in their little envelopes!
Once again, I have a video for you. These pop-ups are pretty easy to put together once you get the hang of it. The concept is really pretty simple and I show you how to do it in this video...
All of the elements that I've shown you from the kit work great for cards too, so I have several cards to show you. This first one is pretty simple. I used the stencils to create a striking background. I embossed the tree stencil first, then used the snowflake stencil along with some texture paste to add lots of dimension.
The sleigh circle scene is a great focal point, along with one of the printed circles, and a sentiment stamp.
My next card uses those cute kiddos and forest critters to create a pretty winter scene. I inked over the tree stencil with Aqua Mist ink, and put white texture paste over the snowflake stencil.
I added the trees, stamped with Classic Kraft ink, and also the kiddos. You have a few options when stamping them - you can stamp just the outline and color them in, or there are solid stamps for their jackets/hats and scarves. I added the In the Meadow dies (not from the kit) along the bottom so I could nest the cute critters in the snow drifts.
My next card uses lots of different elements from the kit together along with the 3-step holly frame stencils. I created a focal point with the fancy frame, cut and stamped with Aqua Mist, and cut the circle house scene from a solid frame diecut.
I added the filigree corners, cut from Luxe Gold cardstock. The frame around the outer edges was done with the stencils - Pure Poppy and New Leaf ink for the berries and leaves, and the gold Embellishment Mousse from the Trimmings kit for the bracket portion.
Lastly, I have a few gift wrap ideas for you. I'm always looking for fun little gifts and ways to wrap them for the holidays. The large bubbles from the kit fit inside the ring of a wide-mouth jar, opening up lots of possibilities for jar gifts!
My first one is pretty simple to put together. I started with a wide mouth pint jar and used the fancy frame die as a pretty label, topped with the greenery cluster stamp.
I added a pretty lighted lid to the top by sandwiching a strand of fairy lights and some snow between two of the large bubbles, and tucking them into the ring of the jar. I topped it off with the house diecut and a printed circle.
Before tucking it in the jar ring, I punched a hole and added an eyelet so that the recipient can pop it out and add a string to make a cute lighted ornament.
I punched a small hole in one of the bubbles to run the strand of lights through, and still keep the battery pack accessible. The battery pack is attached underneath the bottom bubble. If you want to keep the food in the jar clear of the battery pack, you could easily tuck in a third bubble over the battery pack before securing the lid.
My next project also uses a wide-mouth jar, but this time one of the shorter jars that are available, for a fun cocoa gift set.
The top of the jar is a wintery scene filled with marshmallows and candy canes. This is actually pretty easy to put together. I started with two 11" strips of paper and attached four of the diecut trees along the length of the strips, one along the base of the trees and the other along the tops. Then I just adhered the bottom strip around the jar ring, and secured the ends top strip together.
I added the cute kids and critters to the scene, too. Just like the jar above, I sandwiched some snow and fairy lights between two of the large bubbles and tucked it in the ring to light up the scene.
Once the cocoa and marshmallows are gone, you're left with a cute lighted decor piece.
Here's another view of the lights and snow inside the jar ring. You'll also notice I cut a ring of patterned paper to cover the edges of the clear bubble. I used the largest circle die from the kit for the opening that fits around the bubble, and the outer edge was cut using a circle cutter from my stash of tools.
Ok! That might be one of my longest blog posts ever! I had so much fun creating with this kit...it's always one of the highlights of my year, to go from concept to completed designs with the holiday kit, and this year was no exception. I enjoyed every minute of it and I hope you enjoyed my projects today!
