Introducing Swan'sational and Inspired: Love...
December 10, 2016
Good morning and welcome to the first day of the December Papertrey Ink countdown! I hope you can sneak a little time away from the holiday hustle and bustle to pop in and check out the new products and projects the DT will share over the next 5 days as we work our way through the countdown!
Today I get to help introduce a couple of new sets, one of which is an absolutely gorgeous set by Maile called Swan'sational -- filled with two beautiful swans and tons of little details - lily pads, cattails, etc. This is a fun one to play with!
The other new set I'm using today's is this month's installment of my Inspired series. This month we're showcasing the word "love" along with several coordinating verses. There is a coordinating "love" word die available as well.
These new stamps and dies along with anything else I mention as "new" in today's post will be available for purchase beginning at 10pm ET on December 15th from Papertrey Ink.
I have three projects today using these new sets. The first one uses both Swan'sational and Inspired: Love. I started out by creating a watercolor background using soft greens, purples, and teals. I wanted to try and create something inspired by Monet's Water Lilies series, so I chose colors that are similar to what he used. It took me a couple of tries to get the look I was after, but it was a fun process! There is a water ripple image included in the Swan'sational set and I stamped that into my watery scene a few times as well.
Then I started adding details, the swans, water lilies, cattails, etc, all from the Swan'sational set. The sentiment was done with the new Inspired: Love set, layered over a Tag Sale: Quilted banner diecut.

I must have been stuck on this watercolor idea because my next card also features a watercolor background, this time in a different color scheme.
I kept the design more to one side this time and also added some watercoloring to look like hanging flowering bushes. I also added the bridge from the Petite Places: Walk in the Park set to the background.
I diecut and stamped two of the swans and positioned them right next to each other to create a heart with their necks. I also added several lily pads. The sentiment I used here was stamped with the new Paper Clippings: Love Story set which you'll be seeing more of a bit later in the countdown.

My last card for today takes a much more masculine approach to the Swan'sational and Inspired: Love sets. I started out with a panel of watercolor paper and used an ink blending sponge to blend some gold and orange inks. When I was finished sponging, I took a wide, damp brush and brushed over the ink, blending them a little more and leaving a kind of cool brush-stroke effect.
Then I diecut and stamped several of the cattails from the set, along with a couple of the smaller birds. These were all stamped in Smokey Shadow ink and adhered along the bottom edge of the watercolored panel. I stamped one of the sentiments from the Inspired: Love set in black ink. I also stamped a couple of the bird clusters from the Blue Skies set to add a little something to the background.
