Introducing Number the Stars, Background Basics: Galaxy, and Dress Up Dolls: Rainy Day
July 10, 2016
Welcome to Day 1 of the Papertrey Ink July countdown! I get to help introduce some fun new stamps and dies today. Here's what I'm showcasing today...
A fun sentiment set by Lizzie called Number the Stars. She also designed a great new background set called Background Basics: Galaxy. And then to top it all off she designed a Star Gift Box die that's just super cute!
The latest addition to the Dress Up Dolls series is also being shown today, so I'll have a few projects using that as well!
All of the stamps and dies I mention as "new" in today's post will be available for purchase beginning at 10p Eastern time on July 15th from the Papertrey Ink website.
My first project is a card and star box ensemble. The card uses a pretty sentiment from the new Number the Stars set along with a background I created using the new Background Basics: Galaxy set. I started out by stamping the Galaxy background set multiple times using Versamark ink, then heat embossing it with clear powder. I also spritzed it with a bit of Goosebumps texture spray. Then I used my blending sponge to ink the embossed panel with Orange Zest, Raspberry Fizz, and Amethyst Allure inks. The embossed stars and the texture spray resisted the ink. I stamped a few stars from the Galaxy set inside the embossed stars to add a bit more depth.
When the panel was all finished, I diecut it using the largest Double Ups: Rectangle die and nested the diecut rectangle back inside, except I flipped it so the colors of the ink blending are opposite, and popped it up with some foam tape. I added a stitched star, which was diecut using the Shaker Shapes: Star die, as well as a few smaller stars, which were cut using the Paper Clippings: Congratulations dies. The sentiment was stamped using the new Number the Stars set, which I inked with a gradient of inks to match the background.
I also created a matching little treat box using the new Star Gift Box die. I cut it from Stamper's Select cardstock, then used some sticky notes to do a bit of masking so I could ink and stamp the center star using the same colors and techniques I used on the card. Then I assembled the box and wrapped some gold/cream twine around it and tied a star tag, which was cut using the Tremendous Tags dies. I stamped the "for you" from the new Background Basics: Galaxy set.

My next project again uses a sentiment from the Number the Stars set and a background done with Background Basics: Galaxy. I started by stamping Background Basics: Galaxy using Amethyst Allure and Enchanted Evening inks. Then I stamped the second step "splatters" that surround the stars using Versamark ink and heat embossed them with silver embossing powder. I sponged over everything with some Amethyst Allure and Blueberry Sky inks and also stamped some of the insides of the stars with coordinating ink colors.
When this panel was finished, I took a panel of Linen cardstock and cut a circle using The Stitched Circles and Stitched Circles: Holes dies and placed my stamped panel underneath. I cut some star sequines from vellum and silver cardstock using the Shaker Shapes: Circle dies. I strung them on a piece of embroidery floss and tied it through some of the holes in the Stitched Circle. The sentiment was stamped using the Number the Stars set, stamped on the coordinating label die.

Next I have a birthday card and treat box using these new sets. For the card, I started by cutting and stamping three candles from the Wishes Come True set. I stamped the stars from Background Basics: Galaxy onto a diecut rectangle which was cut using the Noted: Scalloped A2 die set. I positioned them to look like they're coming from the candles. I stamped the insides of several of the stars using the individual stars from the Background Basics: Galaxy set. I sponged Summer Sunrise and Tropical Teal inks onto the background.
The sentiment from the Number the Stars set was stamped with black ink onto a coordinating label diecut. I layered it over the three candles. I added some star sequins to the background and to the sentiment. The whole thing was layered over a Noted: Scalloped A2 card base, which was cut from Tropical Teal cardstock.
For the star treat box, I diecut it from Stamper's Select cardstock and sponged it with Tropical Teal ink, then spritzed it with a bit of water to add some texture. I diecut the star box from Adhesive Gold paper too, and cut it apart so that I could adhere the pieces to the teal layer to create a kind of faceted look. I cut a slit in the top and slipped in one of the candles like the ones used on the card. Fun and easy!

Next I have a couple of projects using the new Dress Up Dolls: Rainy Day set. My first one uses the girl from the Dress Up Dolls: Basics set and I decked her out with all of the rain gear included in the new Rainy Day set. The hat actually slips on and off the doll's head, making is super fun if you're using the set to create actual paper dolls. The doll and umbrella were colored with Copics.
The background was cut using the Cover Plate: Blue Skies die, which I sponged with some Aqua Mist ink along the bottom, then spritzed with water to give it some texture. I also used a waterbrush and Aqua Mist re-inker to create the "puddle". The little rubber ducky floating through the puddle is also included in the Rainy Day set, as is the fun sentiment here, which is finished on the inside of the card.
The inside of the card is finished with the rest of the sentiment, which was stamped onto a Double Ups Rectangle. I added a bit of sponged ink and the little rubber duck to carry the design to the inside.

I couldn't wait to pair the Dress Up Dolls: Rainy Day set with the Sunshine & Rainbows mini kit and XL Rainbow die, and that's what I did for this next card! I diecut the XL Rainbow from white cardstock and added color to it using the stencils in the Sunshine & Rainbows mini kit. I actually ended up putting the rainbow upside down for our little rain girl to sit on! After she was all stamped and colored, I folded her legs to make her look like she's sitting.
Behind her umbrella is a bit of ink sponging using Aqua Mist ink, then I stenciled the heart/rays using Tropical Teal ink and one of the stencils from the Sunshine & Rainbows kit. Along the bottom is a "sending sunshine" sentiment which was done using the stamps and dies from the Sunshine & Rainbows mini kit.
