Color Pop Butterflies...

(I have two posts today - if you're looking for the MFT sketch challenge, click HERE or scroll down)

Welcome to the second group post for the April Papertrey Ink countdown!  Today the team is featuring my newest Make It Market Mini Kit - Color Pop Butterflies!  If you enjoyed the Color Pop Floral kit, you'll love this one too.  The concept is very much the same as the Color Pop Florals - the kit contains stamps, dies, and multi-step stencils that can be used on plain paper or to add pops of color to the neutral papers included in the kit.  There are both warm and cool neutrals papers included, ranging from dark to light, allowing you to really have fun and play around with different color combinations with the stenciling!  It's almost like color by number for stampers.

This new Make it Market Mini Kit will be available for purchase from the Papertrey Ink website on April 15th, 2016, beginning at 10pm Eastern.  As with the other Make It Market Mini kits, it's not limited edition and will be restocked should it happen to sell out at some point.

I did not put a video together for this kit, because it works just like the floral version, which I did a video for when it was released, and I'll post it here again in case you need it.

I love butterflies and had so much fun playing around with sponging the stencils with different colors and adding the different details with the stamp set.  The stamp set in the kit is just a $5 set, but just like the Color Pop Florals kit, there are lots of different butterfly details that can be mixed and matched to create lots of different looking butterflies.  For my first card, I started out with one of the black papers from the kit.  I used the multi-step stencils to add color to just some of the butterflies, leaving some of them white, creating kind of a trail from the bottom up to the top.  It's like a kaleidoscope of butterflies (did you know that's the actual name for a group of butterflies?  how cool is that?)  I sponged the inks so they would create a rainbow effect.

When I was done sponging ink I added the stamped details to the butterflies, leaves, and flowers.  I also added a few of the preprinted diecuts - the orange butterfly and the two flower clusters around the sentiment.  That sentiment is from the Bold & Beautiful set.

Half of the papers in the kit feature all over butterfly/flower backgrounds like the card above, and the other half has more of a  butterfly trail or cluster, like this next card. You can add color to the butterflies on these by sponging ink on the individual butterflies and flowers - just use a sticky note to help mask off any of the surrounding stencil openings, if need be.  I sponged the butterflies with Amethyst Allure and Spring Rain for the blue/purple ones, and Lovely Lady for the pink ones.

To add a little dimension, I used the dies from the kit to add one of the large butterflies and a few flowers and leaves.  I sponged color onto them with the stencils and used the stamps to add details.  The sentiment here is a die that's also in the kit, as is that little banner coming off the side of the sentiment.  There are a couple of small companion sentiments included in the stamp set, one of which is this "for you" sentiment.

My next card uses one of the butterfly cluster Fine Linen papers.  I didn't actually stencil the butterflies on this one, I just used the blank white butterflies on the paper as my guide for placing some of the pre-printed diecuts.  I added the "you make me so happy" sentiment from the kit by stamping the first part onto the banner die from the kit and the "so happy" was diecut from Aqua Mist cardstock that I sponged before diecutting with a bit of Tropical Teal ink.

The bottom portion of the card is some floral paper that I created by stenciling and stamping the flower cluster and leaves.  I found that with the flowers I had better results by stamping first, and then adding the stenciling over the top.  The images turned out a bit crisper that way.  The strip across the center is from the new Delightful Cover Plate.

My next card has a very different color combination - that's what's kind of fun about these neutral papers in the kit.  You can make them into whatever you want...bold and bright or soft and pastel.  Here I used Terracotta Tile, Pure Poppy, Orange Zest, Aqua Mist, and Tropical Teal inks on one of the kraft all-over butterfly papers.

When I was finished stenciling and stamping the background, I added a Half & Half diecut over the top, sponged with a bit of Aqua Mist ink, and added some of the pre-printed butterflies and flowers, which were cut with the dies from the kit.  The "A note of thanks" sentiment is from the Bold & Beautiful set.

For my last card for today, I combined the Color Pop Butterflies kit with the stamps and stencils from the Color Pop Florals kit.  I had so much fun stenciling and stamping and building this pretty wreath of flowers and butterflies.  The different flowers and leaves from both kits mix well with each other, giving you a variety of sizes to work with.

I also added a few of the smaller pre-printed butterflies from the Color Pop Butterflies kit into the wreath.  The sentiment in the center was done with the Inspired: Faith die and stamp set.
