Super Heroes & Stars!

It's time for the second group post for the Papertrey Ink Ink March countdown!  Today we're revealing the next installments of the Paper Clippings and Dress Up Dolls series.

All of these new stamps, dies, and papers will be available for purchase beginning at 10pm EST on March 15th from the Papertrey Ink website.

Let's get on with the projects!

First I have a couple of Dress Up Dolls projects.  This month's set, Dress Up Dolls: Superhero, has all of the accessories needed to transform your little guys and gals into their super-secret superhero identities.  :-)  You can use these little cuties on cards, tags, wraps, and of course, turn them into magnetic paper doll sets like I showed HERE. The entire outfit is one piece, perfect for little hands if using this set for the magnetic paper dolls.

My first card uses the boy from the Dress Up Dolls: Basics set along with lots of the accessories from the Dress Up Dolls: Superhero set.  I layered him over the Cover Plate: Comic strip die and embellished each of the open areas.

I had fun embellishing each of those little insert pieces from the Comic Strip Cover Plate.  The clouds and sunburst are from the Scene It: Skyscapes die collection, while the city scape is from the Zappy Birthday die collection, which, by the way, is a great companion to the Dress Up Dolls: Superhero set!  I sponged Blueberry Sky and Enchanted Evening ink on each insert for lots of color.  The stars and lightening bolt are from the Dress Up Dolls: Superhero set.

Of course there are super girls too!  The outfit works for either boy or girl.  There is an additional little detail that can be stamped across the chest to add a feminine touch if using it for the girl.  I used it here on this card, along with the girl from the Dress Up Dolls: Basics set, and colored her up in pinks and aquas.  I added lots of sparkle to her outfit with a Wink of Stella pen.  There is a little headband that can be added to the head too, if using it for the girl.

I placed the shooting star from the set in her hand, and then added a rainbow of rays using the die found in the Blue Skies die collection.  I sponged them with a rainbow of inks and adhered them around the shooting star, trimming off any excess from around the edges of the card.  The sentiment here is also from the Dress Up Dolls: Superheroes set.

Next, I have several projects using the new Paper Clippings: Congratulations stamp set and dies.  The oversized sentiment on this set does all the hard work for you and cards come together quickly.  For my first project I created a graduation card.  I paired that jumbo sentiment with the mortar board from the For the Graduate set.

I started off with a panel of Linen cardstock, which I sponged with Blueberry Sky ink along the bottom.  I used a heat gun to make sure my ink was good and dry, then used one of the Modern Backgrounds stencils to sponge some Versamark ink.  I heat embossed the stenciled pattern with gold embossing powder, then diecut the Paper Clippings: Congratulations from the finished panel.  I layered this over a panel of Blueberry Sky cardstock, which was sponged with some Enchanted Evening ink for a bit of depth.  I embossed the "graduate" word from the Paper Clippings set along the bottom.  Above the "C" I added the mortar board, embossed in gold, from the For the Graduate set.

One of the things I'm really enjoying about the Paper Clippings sets is that with the jumbo sentiment and details on the die, you don't have to worry much about layout, all of the work is already pretty much done for you.  But then you can really get creative and spend some time playing around with different backgrounds or techniques.  For this next card, I wanted to create a sunburst background that also had a watercolor look to it.  So I started off with the sun ray from the Blue Skies stamp set.  I marked the center off the card, near the bottom, then set to work stamping that ray several times with Versamark ink, always lining up the tip with the center mark.  I heat embossed them all with clear embossing powder.  This was done on watercolor paper, so the texture of the paper shows through the embossing a bit, creating a sort of rustic texture.

When the stamping/embossing was done, I watercolored the background using my Zig Clean Color pens and a waterbrush.  The clear embossed areas resisted the watercolor, of course, making the sunburst really stand out.  I diecut the Paper Clippings: Congratulations and also watercolored some of the stars on the diecut.  I adhered it over my background with foam tape.  The "you did it!" sentiment is also from the Paper Clippings set and it was stamped on the stitched banner from the Tag Sale: Quilted die set.

Next I have a much softer version, suitable for a wedding card.  I started off by sponging some Sweet Blush ink onto a panel of Linen cardstock, then diecutting the Paper Clippings: Congratulations die from this panel.  I placed another panel of Linen cardstock in my MISIT and positioned the diecut where I wanted it on my card and placed the coordinating sentiment stamp on the top, shifting it slightly up and to the left, then closing my MISTI lid.  I removed the diecut and stamped the large sentiment in gray ink so then it would create a shadow effect.

I adhered my diecut sentiment over the stamped one, using foam tape.  I diecut the individual stars, included in the Paper Clippings: Congratulations die from a silver adhesive sheet and scattered them around the diecut.  The "on your wedding day" sentiment from the Keep It Simple: Wedding was stamped in the same gray ink along the bottom.  This card was super quick and easy, but looks like it took more time than it did!

My last card for today uses the large sentiment stamp on its own, without the die.  I turned it at a bit more of an angle so that all of the first letters in each row lined up with the edge of a panel of Linen cardstock.  I inked it up with Tropical Teal and Enchanted Evening ink.  I stamped it a second time with Aqua Mist ink, and shifted it slightly to create a shadow effect.

I added a strip of Ombre patterned paper along the left edge, and embellished it with a few of the loose stars from the set, and one of the diecut flourishes, which I trimmed away from the main large diecut.  A few sequins scattered around add a little sparkle.
