New Make it Market Mini Kit: Color Pop Florals

Ann logo

Welcome to Day 8 of the Papertrey Ink Anniversary celebration!  We're all back again today with a group post.  Today we're featuring a new Make It Market Mini Kit called Color Pop Florals!  I think this might just be my favorite one yet.

The Color Pop Florals Mini Kit will be available for purchase beginning at 10pm EST on February 15, 2016 from the Papertrey Ink website.

It was announced earlier this week that Papertrey is going to be carrying a line of our very own stencils.  The Color Pop Florals kit contains three stencils with a bit of a twist in that they're multi-step stencils.  You can use them to create pretty floral backgrounds and accents and then combine them with some detail stamp images for lots of color and variation.  I had so much fun playing around with this whole concept!  The kit contains several "starter" papers with neutral colored backgrounds to which you can add "pops" of color using the stencils and stamps -- in any color combos your heart desires!

I put together a video which shows everything in action...

Here are a few step-by-step photos as well.  The white areas on the paper are the areas that can be filled in with the stencils and stamps.  This first photo shows the first stencil with the larger flowers after I used it to ink up one of the background papers.

Step two added the leaves, sponged in green ink...

Step three will add color to all of those small flower clusters...

And then you can really bring the design to life with the detail stamps in the kit.  It's just a little $5 set, but there are lots of options for mixing and matching and layering to achieve lots of different looks!  And the color combos are only limited by your imagination!

The neutral background papers in the kit are done in three shades of cool neutrals (Soft Stone, Smokey Shadow, and True Black), along with three warm neutrals (Fine Linen, Classic Kraft, and Dark Chocolate).  There is a set of all-over background floral papers, and a set of floral cluster papers in each of the 6 different colors.  For my projects today I wanted to create one card using each of the 6 different color backgrounds, and just have fun playing around with different color and stamp combos.  I'll start off today's projects with the warm neutrals!

We'll go darkest to lightest, so first up is a card using the Dark Chocolate floral cluster paper to create a birthday card.  I just love how easy it is to create a vibrant, one-layer card!  I just sponged ink onto the flower areas and added the stamped details.

The "Celebrate Today" sentiment diecut is also part of the kit.  I diecut it from white cardstock and sponged some Orange Zest and Hibiscus Burst ink onto it.  The "it's your birthday" sentiment is not part of the kit - it's from a previously released Phrase Play set.  I stamped it in Versamark and heat embossed it with white powder.  Just a simple bow and twine finish off the card.

Next in line in the warm neutral papers is Classic Kraft.  I again used the floral cluster paper here, this time to create a baby card.  I used the stencils to sponge color onto the flowers and leaves, then framed them with a couple of the frame pieces from the new Cover Plate: Pretty Frame die (I think I might need an intervention on that scalloped eyelet border!!).

Pop-kraft

I diecut the word "baby" using the Wonderful Words: Baby die, and sponged it with some Hibiscus ink.  I added it to the center of the frame, and embellished it with a few of the pre-printed floral cuts from the kit.  I also added a couple of those adorable bunnies from the new Simply Spring Borders set.

The lightest warm neutral paper in the kit coordinates with Fine Linen.  Here I used the all-over floral paper along with the stencils and stamps to create a striking floral background.  It's just fun to play around with color combos!  Here I used Berry Sorbet, Autumn Rose, Scarlet Jewel, Dark Chocolate, and Sweet Blush inks, along with Limeade Ice and Ripe Avocado for the leaves.  Changing the colors and how you layer the detail stamps can really change up the look of the design!  It's fun to watch it come to life as you do each step of the sponging and stamping.  This time I didn't use the small flower cluster stencil - I left those white and just stamped the centers with Sweet Blush.

Pop-linen

The circle frame was cut using the Shaker Shapes: Circle die.  I backed it with some Sheer Basics vellum.  The sentiment was diecut from Ripe Avocado cardstock.  There are dies to match the different flowers found in the stencils and paper too, so I diecut some and then used the stencils and stamps to make them coordinate with my background paper.

That was all three warm neutral papers, now let's move on to the cool neutrals.  First up is a card using the True Black floral cluster paper.  The dark background with the sponged ink is just so striking.  I love how you can get so much depth and shading with the stencils.

Pop-black

I used the Cover Plate: Pretty Frame die around the outer edge, and the oval diecut is from the Cover Plate: Scrolled Frame die.  The sentiment is from the new What the Doodle: Butterfly set.  I added a few flower clusters above the sentiment - the yellow cluster was a pre-printed one from the kit that I diecut, but the pink and aqua ones, as well as the leaves, were sponged with the stencils and stamped with the detail stamps from the kit.  The butterfly is from the new Tulip Time set.

Next down the line in the cool shades are the Smokey Shadow papers.  I wanted to pair some pretty blues and greens with the Smokey Shadow background.  I used the stencils to sponge my flowers, then trimmed just a strip of the finished floral paper to use on my card front.

I layered several of the pre-printed diecut flowers flowers from the kit.  The leaves were diecut and then sponged with ink using the stencils since I wanted this bright citrus-y green and there wasn't quite the right color in the pre-printed leaves. The sentiment was diecut from linen cardstock and layered over the blooms - I love the freshness of the blues and greens with the white!

Here's a little before and after of the paper showing how all of the color and detail is added with the stamps and stencils...

Next up is a card using the Soft Stone paper. I used all three steps of the stencils, and when sponging over them I wanted to have more concentrated color under the area where I was going to place the sentiment, and then just kind of gradually fade out from there.  So I spent more time sponging over the areas I wanted to be darker, and just kind of lightly sponged as I went outward, if that makes sense!

Pop-stone

When I was finished sponging all of the flowers and leaves, I went in with the stamps and added lots of details, still keeping with the idea that I wanted darker color in that area behind the sentiment.  For most of the stamped details towards the outer edge I stamped off first, so there was just a hint of color.  I diecut several flowers and leaves from linen cardstock and again used the stencils and stamps to make them coordinate with my background.  The "it's your wedding day" sentiment is from the same Phrase Play set I used on my Dark Chocolate card at the top of this post.  I stamped it here on a stitched banner diecut, which is from the Tag Sale: Quilted set.  Again, I couldn't resist adding that beautiful scalloped border around the outside!

Well, that's all of the different neutral colored papers in use, but you can definitely do your own thing too - use all three stencil layers on white paper, or sponge individual flowers to create your own design. Here I inked up several flowers and leaves onto a panel of linen cardstock.

Pop-white

Over the sponged flowers I layered several of the pre-printed flowers, which I diecut using the dies in the kit.  I also diecut the sentiment from the kit and added some Orange Zest and Summer Sunrise inks to it.  I sponged some Aqua MIst ink behind the sentiment before adhering it.  I sprinkled a few pink sequins in there too.

Well, that is all for today!  Do you think it looks like fun?  What color combo would you try first?  Something I showed here, or and idea of your own?  Are you more drawn to the cool or warm neutrals?
