More Phrases & Praises...

Welcome to Day #2 of the Papertrey Ink countdown.  I'm just popping in with a few more cards using my Phrases & Praises set.  My goal this week is to use every sentiment from the set at least once.  :-)

My first card and bookmark set uses another of my favorite sentiments from the set.  This song was sung at my grandpa's funeral when I was just a little girl and I still remember it so clearly, so it has always been special to me.  Quite a few years ago I did a card for Paper Crafts magazine with this sentiment, which I printed from my computer, and I always wished I had a stamp...that's the super cool thing about getting to design stamps...I can make all of the things I always wish I had.  :-)

I paired the "His eye is on the sparrow..." sentiment with the Feather Finery set.  I started by stamping the feathers in an assortment of colorful inks.  I also stamped some of the little dots from the set around the feathers.  Then I used my waterbrush and a bit of ink from my ink pads to added a bit of watercoloring to them.  When it was all dry I stamped the sentiment over the top using True Black ink.  I also added a little strip of patterned paper along the bottom edge -- this is from a new paper pad by Maile coming your way this month, called Ombre Stripes.

I made a bookmark to match, using the same stamps as the card, along with the Basic Bookmark #1 die.  This time I added the rest of the sentiment, which is a separate stamp in case you would rather just use the first portion of the sentiment alone.  I added several strands of matching embroidery floss to the top and knotted it, almost like making a friendship bracelet, and then frayed the ends a bit.

My second card for today uses another sentiment from Phrases & Praises surrounded by a wreath made with images from the Spruce & Sprigs set released last month.  I really like the way this set doesn't have to be just for the holidays.  When done in other colors it takes on a whole new look.

I only used three ink colors for the stamping - Berry Sorbet, Spring Moss, and Blueberry Sky.  Then I went in and added some shading with my Copic markers, and also some sponged ink behind the red and blue berries.  To do this I used one of the Brushstix tools, which is basically just a small sponge-tipped applicator and allows you to get a little more precise with the blending than you could using the larger blending tool.  The sentiment in the center, which is of course from the Phrases & Praises set, was stamped with Blueberry Sky ink.

I also finished off the inside of this card, using the separate "and you're one of them" sentiment, which is meant to be paired with the "He fills my life with good things" sentiment.  It makes for a wonderful way to say thank you for any number of things.  I stamped a few of the sprigs and berries from the Spruce & Sprigs set, using the same shading techniques that I used on the front.

That's all from me today, but I'll be back here tomorrow with our first group post for the November countdown!
