Introducing Blue Skies...
February 12, 2015
We are on the 8th day of the 8th Anniversary celebration for Papertrey Ink! Are you inspired yet? Are you having fun with the challenges? I hope so! It's going to be quite an event when all of those giveaway winners are announced! There are going to be lots of happy people. If you haven't entered a challenge yet, I encourage you to give it a try...they're so much fun! You can read all the details on Nichole's blog.
So, another day, another product introduction. I have a few more Make It Market A la Carte items to reveal today! I know, crazy, right? Actually, I've been saving up ideas for the last 10 years worth of crafting and I'm letting them all out this week. lol.
Today's feature is a collection called Blue Skies, and I think it's just a happy collection. The stamps are light-hearted and fun, with lots of cute sentiments that cover many different occasions. There are so many different options, it's just a fun set to play around with. The Blue Skies collection includes a full, 2-sheet $24 stamp set along with coordinating dies, and also a Cover Plate which also has an optional additional add-on die. All of these items will be sold A la Carte, meaning they are not limited edition and they will be re-stocked should they happen to ever go out of stock at any time.
All of the items in the Blue Skies collection will be available for purchase from the Papertrey Ink website as of 10pm EST on February 15th.
All right, enough talk. Projects...that's what you came for, right? Let's get on with it, shall we?
My first project uses the Blue Skies stamps, dies, and also the Cover Plate, including the optional add-on Rays. The main cover plate cuts the top scalloped edge and also embosses layered clouds. The optional Blue Skies Rays die is designed so that it fits perfectly under the edge of the embossed clouds at the bottom, but you can also tuck it behind the top of the Cover Plate like I did here and just trim off the excess.
I diecut the plane from the new Luxe Silver Cardstock using the airplane die from the Blue Skies set. I stamped a rainbow of rays using the long ray image from the Blue Skies set several times with a rainbow of inks. The sentiment was stamped in True Black ink, and is from the set as well. I think it would make such a fun encouragement card for kids! You could also choose not to ink up the bottom line of the sentiment so that it could be used for more of a congratulatory card.

My next card also uses the Blue Skies Cover Plate along with the optional Rays add on. You can see here I used it below the clouds, where it nestles perfectly. Here I diecut it from the main cover plate die and then pulled it out to sponge some Harvest Gold ink onto the rays and some Aqua Mist onto the clouds. Then I nested it back inside and did all of my stamping.
I used a round object and a black pen to draw the "wires" for my birdies to sit on. Then I stamped them in a rainbow of colors and added a pair to the arrow in my sentiment as well. The arrow reminds me of a weather vane, perfect for this sentiment, which would make a fun encouragement card. I also diecut a few clouds from the new patterned vellum using the Blue Skies dies and stitched them down. There are some nice round plump clouds and also the flat bottom clouds I used here.

My next card uses the airplane again, this time combined with the new Scene It dies. I started off with the Scene It: Basic Backer die (scalloped circle) and diecut it from both white and Spring Rain cardstock. Then I diecut the Scene It: Skyscapes cloud layer from the white circle, leaving me with a narrow circle frame with the clouds attached at the edges. Fun! I took all of the little cloud cut-outs as well and added them in the circle.
The Blue Skies set includes this fun belated birthday sentiment, which I stamped inside the circle. I stamped a bunch of clouds from the set onto the background using Spring Rain ink as well. There are striped clouds, polka dots, and solid, some flat-bottomed and some fluffy. I added a couple of ray diecuts behind the plane - these were cut using the long single ray die that's included in the main Blue Skies die collection.
The whole sentiment actually reads "your birthday came out of the blue, sorry I missed it", but I chose not to ink up the bottom line (super easy to do since they're spaced far enough apart) and I added it to the inside instead, along with a few clouds.

Ok, so here's where the set gets pretty fun. Who says a cloud has to be just a cloud...didn't you ever play that game when you were a kid, imagining the clouds to be other things? Well, you can turn the clouds from the Blue Skies set into other things too! The set includes a cupcake base that fits onto the polka dot cloud, and a fun sentiment to go with it. Today's forecast? Sunny with a chance of sprinkles. :-)
There is a little sprinkle stamp in the set as well. Here I stamped it several times, each time inking it carefully with Aqua Mist, Summer Sunrise, and Hibiscus Burst inks. There is a die for both the cupcake base and the cherry. I embellished my cupcake with the faux sprinkles from the Shakers & Sprinkles kit. If you have the kit you could also mask off the word "sprinkles" and use your die from the kit instead, which would be pretty cute. I added the line-cloud diecuts to the top of my card and hand-trimmed around them for a little something at the top.

What else can clouds be? Well, in the Blue Skies world they can also be trees! There is a funky tree trunk stamp and die included so you can turn those clouds into tree-tops.
Here I used both the Blue Skies Cover Plate and Rays to create the background. I diecut a few clouds from Limeade Ice and Hibiscus cardstock. Then I used the tree trunk and ran them through my machine again, just putting the top of the trunk on the bottom of the cloud so that it would cut a space that I could nest the trunk inside. I added some In the Meadow diecut hills along the bottom, layered with the new printed vellum. There is printed vellum at the top too, tucked behind the cover plate diecut, layered over Spring Rain cardstock.

I hope you enjoyed this peek at the Blue Skies collection. It really is a fun set to play around with...so many options. It's just happy! I had so much fun making my projects and I feel like I just touched the tip of the iceberg as far as the possibilities for this set!
