Introducing Critter Cuties: Owl Dies...

Welcome to the first countdown day of the August Papertrey Ink release.  We have so many fall, halloween, and thanksgiving ideas to share with you this week!

Today I get to help introduce a new set of dies called Critter Cuties: Owls...and let me tell you, they are CUTE.  This new set of dies was designed to cut all the bits and pieces to transform a 1 1/2" pom-pom or small pinecone into an adorable little owl.  But you can use them on all sorts of other things too, and I've got a few ideas to show you in today's post.  These new dies will be available for purchase from the Papertrey Ink website at 10pm Eastern time on August 15, 2014.

Let me show you my projects using the Critter Cuties: Owl dies...

First up is a set of owl treats made using Cadbury Cream Eggs...did you know they have a Halloween version called "Scream Eggs"?  Too funny.  I thought they would make perfect owls when combined with the Critter Cuties dies.

Here are the eggs before I started...

I took some gold tissue paper and wrapped it around the eggs, securing it with baker's twine.  Then I trimmed the excess from the top, leaving a little bit to kind of look like a poof of feathers on top of their heads.  I used my scissors to kind of shape it and snip it.

The dies cut the wings, feet, beak, and the part for their head (what's that even called? ha!).  There are also eyes, but I used google eyes instead.  I did use the little half-circle eyelid portion though, and glued it right to the google eye.  Wouldn't it be fun to make a whole clan of these little guys?  Too cute.  And I don't know if they make a valentine version of the Cadbury Eggs (I'm guessing they probably do?), but wouldn't these be cute for Valentine's day with the "who loves you" sentiment from Tiny Treats?  Agh!

My next project features another egg-shaped object that I thought would make a perfect owl...one of those EOS lip balms. Do you love this stuff as much as I do?  I use it every day.  I think these would be so fun made up as treats for my girls' friends, or even for my friends!  Birthday favors, place cards, you name it.  I used my hot glue gun to attach the diecut pieces to the lip balm container...and they best part is, it's still totally usable...the lid unscrews and you can use it while it's all decorated.

For my next project I used the Critter Cuties dies in a bit different way...this time I used them to transform the Bunny Bag die into an owl.

Treat-Bag-Owls1

The wings adhere perfectly to the sides of the bag (when you score a pleat down the side of the bag).  I adhered the eyes where the holes are in the flap for the whiskers.  For the "tummy" portion I used a Limitless Layers 2 1/4" Oval diecut.  The "happy halloween" sentiment is from the new Keep It Simple: Halloween set being released this month.

My last project for today uses the Critter Cuties: Owl dies on a card. A couple in our neighborhood just had a baby girl and I thought I might bring her the booties I made a few months ago with the bootie dies, so I wanted a card to match. Here I diecut the owl pieces from felt.  Again, I used the LL: Oval dies for the body.

He's sitting on a branch which is from the Winterberry set.  The sentiment is from Think Big Favorites.
