Tranquility Trilogy...
July 13, 2011
Hello all! Welcome to the final night of the Papertrey Ink July countdown! Only one more day until you can purchase all of the goodies we've been teasing you with this week!
Tonight the team is featuring a new set designed by Nichole called Tranquility Trilogy. It's all based on triangles! So fun...triangles are terribly underused and left out, aren't they? They can be so fun. Tranquility Trilogy and its matching dies can be purchased from Papertrey Ink's website, beginning July 15th.
I signed up to do a fabric project using the new Tranquility Trilogy set and coordinating dies and the first thing that cam to mind was prairie points. If you sew or quilt, you know what I mean by prairie points...they are those pretty little triangles you often find around the edges of a quilt. I once made crib bedding and matching curtains for my daughter that had prairie points in pinks and greens all along the edges. Lots of work, but very worth it!
But for my project today, I didn't go through all the work of creating real prairie points...I let the new Tranquility Trilogy die do all the work for me.
I created an embellished dish towel that would make a really fun hostess gift, with pretty little points from vintage fabrics lining the bottom edge.
Like I said, it would make a great gift.
If I were giving it away.
But this one's selfishly staying with me. I've been itching to make some of these for my kitchen. So I'm keeping it. It's already hanging on the hook next to my sink. :-)
To create my fabric points, I backed several different vintage fabrics with fusible interfacing, then cut them with the triangle die. I stacked two of them together, wrong sides together, and stitched along the edges. I then lined them up and stitched them to my towel.
I also cut a rose from a vintage tabelcloth and stitched that to the towel as well. I did some freehand stitching on that....I'm not going to pretend for a second to be good at it, but it is kind of fun. Takes lots of practice to perfect it though!
And of course, if I were going to give this away (which I'm not...did I mention that?) I would need a matching card. Here I used both the Tranquility Trilogy stamp set and the coordinating die to create a cheery card. I mimicked the points on the towel and created a banner across the front. The yellow and red triangles were stamped with images from the new set. The center one is stamped with the blank triangle frame, also from the set, then filled with Background Basics: Gingham.
I stamped the rose from the Year of Flowers Collection set onto the background to mimc the rose on my towel. The sentiment is from the new Tranquility Trilogy as well. I accented it with a flourish from Fancy Flourishes.
Well, I hope you enjoyed all of the countdown festivities, including tonight's group post! If you haven't checked out the other girls' takes on the new Tranquility Trilogy set, be sure to hop around and do that!
