Sweet Baby Inspiration...
June 11, 2011
Welcome to the first group post of the June Papertrey countdown! Tonight the team is showcasing projects for babies, babies, babies! Papertrey is releasing two new baby sets this month -- Bundle of Love and Sweet Baby, both by Melissa Bickford. They will be available for purchase on the 15th of June from the Papertrey Ink website.
For my project tonight, I chose to work with Sweet Baby. This set has THE most adorable polka dot animals. SO sweet!! I chose to create a mobile that could be used to decorate baby's room, along with a matching card.
The mobile was contructed out of cardstock diecut with the coordinating dies for sweet baby along with a ton of punched 1" circles.
(don't mind the butterflies in the background...my daughter's room was the only place to photograph it!)
It literally took less than 1 sheet of cardstock of each color. So, for the cost 5 sheets of cardstock and two wooden dowels, you have an adorable baby gift!
Construction was quite simple. I painted my dowels with cream paint, then layed them one on top of the other like an "x" and wrapped string around the center.
I then diecut my animals. I used just the elephant and giraffe...I could not figure out a way to stitch the lions together without stitching through their heads :-). I also punched a ton of 1" circles from the same cardstock colors.
I stitched them together by feeding them through my machine, one right after the other. I made sure to leave long tails when I started stitching each strand together. I used these thread tails to tie each strand to the wooden dowels. I finished off the ends of the dowels by gluing a button on each end.
And of course, no handmade gift is complete without a handmade card. I used the adorable elephant stamp image to create a background, then used the coordinating die to create a matching felt elephant.
I handcut the heart for his ear. The tiny heart on his bottom is from the Love Lives Here die collection. I layered him over a Doily Details die and finished it off with the "sweet baby" sentiment, also from this set.
That's all from me tonight, but be sure to hop around to the other design team members to see their baby creations. I'm sure Melissa Bickford will have more projects using these two sets as well!
