It's time for the second group post for Papertrey's April countdown! Today the team is focusing on a brand new collection call Boy Basics. The collection consists of seven $5 stamp sets, each with a different fun, boyish theme! They will be available for purchase on April 15 from the Papertrey Ink website.
For tonight's post I chose to work with Boy Basics: Game On. I have a ten year old boy who is serious about his wii time, so I thought it would be a fun theme to run with.
I departed from my usual girlie vintage shabbiness and delved into the modern, high-tech world of video games. :-)
I created a fun birthday ensemble that includes a card, a video game gift wrap, and treat boxes that resemble Wii remotes.
First off, the treat boxes. I created a simple box design and embellished it with elements from Boy Basics: Game On and Grunge Me. A little tip...the circular control element works perfectly with a 3/4" circle punch.
I put together a PDF pattern for the remote boxes for you which you can download here:
Next is the gift wrap. I used the Take Along Tote Timeless Template, which fits a CD game case perfectly. I used the Guidelines Grid Cardstock as the base because I loved the graphic feel of it and thought it was perfect for this project! I cut the handles using the skateboard from the Skater Dude die collection!
The fun circular border on both the wrap and the card was created with the new Simple Circles Border dies. I embellished it with elements from the set and diecuts using the new Ad Sense die collection. I cut them from silver glitter cardstock (DCWV).
One last thing to note about the card...I brushed the edges of the sentiment strip with VersaMark ink, then embossed it with silver embossing powder for a bit of a different look. I thought it was kind of fun and tech-y looking!
Well, that's all from me tonight! I hope you enjoyed tonight's hi-tech post! :-) Be sure to check out what the other designers did with the sets they used from the Boy Basics collection!
