Happy Monday! I'm back with day 4 of my Vintage Findings series...where I'm exploring lots of different ways to incorporate vintage items into your paper crafting! Today I dug into my stash of old childrens' books. These are always full of colorful and adorable images.
My first project is a gift tin that would be perfect for a little boy's birthday. What little boy doesn't love firetrucks? In my stash of books I have one with lots of different stories..one of which is all about firetrucks.
I diecut the gift tag from one of the pages. I just layed the tag over the portion that I wanted to have on my tag (the firetruck) and ran it through my diecut machine. I paired it with some adorable Sassafras Lass papers, a stamped canvas tag, and diecut star. It is topped off with a number button I created with a stamped number which I punched out and layered over a button.
Quite a few of you have asked if I am using the actual vintage items or if I'm scanning. I know I might terrify a few of you with this, but I love to use the actual item whenever I can. I think it adds to the charm, and afterall, it's what I buy these vintage items for. I am a use them up kinda girl, and to me, that's part of the fun.
But, that being said, there are times when scanning the items is usefull. And by all means, if you're wary of cutting these items, scan away! For my next project I used another children's book. This one had full-page images which aren't so easy to incorporate into my projects, so I did some scanning.
After scanning, I used Photoshop to clone out the poem that was written on the lower half of the image. I then reduced the size to create my own journaling card. The open space where the rhyme once was made for the perfect place to stamp a sentiment.
I finished it off with another pattern-tissue flower.
Well, today marks an end to this week's vintage posts! It has been so much fun that I will be turning this into a regular feature. I'm not sure it's something I'll be able to do every week, but I'm going to give it my best shot. When I can make it work, I'll be doing "Friday's Vintage Findings" posts. It might not be a new technique every week, but at least a card or project using some sort of vintage goodies.
If these posts have inspired you this week, I challenge you to create something using a vintage item of your choice...book pages, fabric, buttons, lace, patterns..whatever your heart desires!
Upload a link to your project using Mr. Linky and I will choose one winner to which I will send a packet of vintage goodies!
You have until midnight on Friday, October 29th. Be sure to state which item you used was vintage!

Great stuff!! I'm super excited for your Vintage Fridays!! You are uber talented!!! Thanks for sharing!
