It's group post day for the Papertrey Ink countdown! Today the team is featuring a new set called All Booked Up. And if you love books, this set is a must have! There are so many possibilities for gift giving or even labeling your book collection. It will be available on July 15th at Papertrey Ink.
Books are such an important part of our life around here. We make several trips to the library every week...my older two kids can read on their own now and they can never seem to get enough. In fact, as I'm typing this up, my oldest just got back from taking his bike over to the library to check out a few things! And now they are all laying on the floor reading Garfield comics. :-) My youngest loves to be read to...although I'll admit I don't always seem to have the time for doing it as much as she would like.
I wanted to share a book with you today that is a favorite around here...it was my favorite when I was a little girl, and now it is one of my kids' favorites. It even got us through potty training...it was the only book that would capture their attention and make them sit long enough to get anything accomplished!
It's silly...funny...rhyming...full of interesting illustrations...with a rythm that makes it fun to read....that's one of the best parts, isn't it? And the kids giggle themselves silly at the part about the hippopotomus falling on their bottomus. every time. And the best part of all is, when I snuggle with my kids to read this book, I'm flooded with memories of snuggling and giggling with my mom as she would read it to me...almost thirty years ago. Books are powerful...and not always for the words that are on their pages.
So anyway, speaking of my mom...it's her birthday next week and when Nichole challenged us to use her new All Booked Up set, I knew I wanted to create a little something for her birthday. She loves to read...in fact if she starts a book, she won't go to bed until it's finished!
I created a pocket card with a special bookmark slipped inside...
The large label image and matching die is so unique. I can't wait to use it with some of the other circular tag images from Papertrey!
The card is two pieces of cardstock stitched together on the sides to create a pocket. I created a special wrap for the bookmark using a large glassine bag. I cut it down using the new Jumbo Rick-Rack die, then stitched along the edges to create a long, skinny envelope style wrap. I finished it off with some ribbon and a button.
And here is the bookmark...made from felt using the new Bookmark Die. I created it from two layers of felt stitched together to make it extra sturdy. A strip of pretty patterned paper stitched down the center finishes it off.
I love this sentiment from the set...maybe my mom will get the hint that she should actually fall asleep in the middle of a book instead of staying up until it's finished. :-)
And here is just a quick shot of the backside....isn't that yellow felt yummy?? *wink*
Now be sure to hop around to see the other girls' projects...
