Masculine Inspiration Day 2: Color + a Challenge

Dad-World-To-Me

If you've been following along this week, you've noticed that I'm focusing on all the men in our lives!  Dad's big day is tomorrow and I know that has a lot of us thinking about creating Father's Day cards and we all know that can be a challenge!  No flowers or frills or all the other girly things we love to create with!

Today I'm going to give you some color inspiration for those manly man cards.  I know I'm usually at a loss if I can't add pink!  I use pink on almost everything!  So where do you turn for color inspiration?  One of my favorite sites to check out when I'm feeling a little stuck is the Colour Lover's site.  If you visit their palette section you can browse through thousands, actually millions, of different color palettes.  You are guaranteed to find something to inspire your next project!

My card today was based on this color palette...

Now, I'm not sure I would have come up with this combo on my own...but I love the result!

My card today is also a good example of the fact that masculine cards don't have to be simple!  I tend to keep them a little more on the simple side than my typical feminine, layered style, but sometimes it's fun to go all out for the men too!  And even though this card is heavily embellished, it's still masculine.  I used bits and pieces from several different collections including the new Pack Your Bags collection from My Little Yellow Bicycle and the Boyfriend collection from Cosmo Cricket.  Travel and shool-ish collections work great for masculine projects!

Need more color inspiration?  Feel like playing along in another challenge?  Here are a few other masculine color schemes I grabbed from the Colour Lover's site.  Create a card with one of these color palettes and link it up on this Mr. Linky at the bottom of this post.  I choose my favorite three projects and feature them here on my blog next week!

So again, the details.  Create a masculine card based on one of the above color palettes.  Link it up using Mr Linky in this post.  And do it before midnight on Tuesday, June 22 CST.  I'll choose three favorites to feature here next week.  Now quite procrastinating and go make that father's day card if you haven't already!!

Before I go, I wanted to share one more thing with you!  Do you visit Christine Middlecamp's blog?  Oh. my. word.  She is a fabulously talented designer...her projects are works of art.  She is doing an Embellished Doily series that is just out of this world.  I was speechless as I scrolled through her posts.  You'll leave feeling inspired...I promise!  I have always loved her mini albums and layouts and could study the details for hours!  Her tutorials inspired the layered embellishment on this card and I can't wait to play around more wth this concept.
